List of travels

ARGENTINA, URUGUAY 2006

I went again to Argentina, this time to see the right southern whales in the waters surrounding the Valdés Peninsula. The beasts were really magnificent. I also visited two Magellan Penguin colonies and spent several days in Uruguay.

ARGENTINA, CHILE 2005

As a great fan of Argentinean football I always knew I would go one day to Argentina. And so it happened - on the 6th October 2005 I landed at the airport in Buenos Aires and here my great journey began. The country is enormous so I spent a lot of time in the buses. Luckily, their standard was really high. The seats were wide, reclining and very comfortable. On the longer routes hot meal was always served and it was very tasty, much better than in the plane. For five weeks I have been travelling alone through the northern part of Argentina and Chile. Then I met in Santiago with Alina and Janina. Together we went south, as far as to Ushuaia on the southernmost point of the continent. We also made a few-day trekking in Torres del Paine National Park. Argentina definitely joined the list of my favourite countries.

JAPAN 2004

A trip to Japan was not in my plans. The country seemed fascinating, but the costs of living and travelling were definitely too high for a student. However, in June 2004 in the city of Tsukuba took part a conference dedicated to supersymmetry, an interesting field of research in theoretical physics. I couldn't let such a chance pass up. I went on the conference and after spent two weeks travelling through the Honshu island. I stayed by the members of Servas, travelled by the cheapest train, bought food in the supermarkets. All in all, it was not as expensive as I was afraid of and Japan is a country worth to visit.

MEXICO, GUATEMALA 2003

I went to Mexico in an unexpectedly large company, with Basia Szadziewska, Ania Garnys, Magda Więcek, Przemek Skibiński and Bartek Bartosińsk. Though at the beginning I wasn't sure if such a big group would be able to reach the compromise, we travelled peacefully and pleasantly. We were in Mexico, Belize and Guatelmala, climbing the volcano, breaking through the jungle in swimming in the blue waters of Pacific. It was fun!

PERU, BOLIVIA, ECUADOR 2002

I always wanted to go to Latin America and for the first destination on this continent I choose Andean countries. Together with my travel-mates - Justyna and Kama - we flew to Quito, the starting point of the seven-week long journey through Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. I will never forget neither the hair-raising bus travel by the Death Road from La Paz to Rurrenbaque, nor the morning dance of the condors in the Canyon Colca. We were in the jungle, high in the mountains, at the seaside and on the salt desert. And of course in Machu Picchu.

ICELAND 2001

I went to Iceland with Justyna Minasiewicz. During four weeks we went around the whole island and even reached the inland volcanic massive Askja. We hitch-hiked, slept in the tent and ate what we had brought from Poland and cooked on our small camping stove. For all those reasons we spent only 100 dollars. The weather was not bad, though several days of continuous rain made me hating the very sound of the drops tapping the canvas. It even turned into our travel motto which was a reflection of our biggest dreams: "No more rain and enough gas in the bottle".

NOTHERN ROUTE TO INDIA 2000

My first travel outside Europe and the most extreme one. It was then when I learned what does travelling mean. Everything started on a winter day when I though that it would be nice to go to Himalaya and see the Everest Base Camp. I was lucky to quickly find a travel-mate, Kama Zemanek. At the beginning we wanted to go to Nepal by the southern route, through Iran and Pakistan, but since we couldn't have obtained Iran visa, we had to change the plans. Finally we set out by train to Moscow We travelled through Russia, China, Tibet, Nepal and India, using different means of transport: train, bus, car, truck, boat, helicopter and elephant. We were in Himalaya and reached the Base Camp. When we came back home after two and half months, we were dirty and tired, but very happy. I still have a great sentiment for this trip.

HUNGARY 1999

Short buy very intense trip aimed to see the total solar eclipse, perfectly visible by the lake Balaton. Afterwards I spent one week travelling across the country and meeting extremely nice people from Servas.

SCANDINAVIA 1999

Together with Natalia Budna we were hitch-hiking for four weeks through Sweden, Norway and Finland, from Karlskrona to the south till Nordcapp on the furthest north. We met many nice and friendly people, wild mosses and Santa Claus. We slept under canvass, sometimes at the camping, sometimes in the forest or by the road. The weather was also good, warm and sunny. Nice journey.

FINLAND BY BIKE 1998

One day I had and idea of a long bike trip. I decided to go to Finland, which seemed to be a peaceful and bike-friendly country. I managed to convince my friend Magda Gil to come with me. And so, on the 25th of July, full of strength and optimism we loaded our bikes on the ferry to Nynasham and further to Helisinki. That's how my travelling began :)
